Booming retrofit market
60% of all aircraft presently in service around the globe are scheduled to be replaced or upgraded. The budget, prior to 2010, for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) is estimated at 800 million Euros. About 20% involve cockpit and avionics. For example, 16,000 UH-I helicopters and 2,200 C130 transport aircraft will require maintenance or upgrade within this relatively short period of time. New era for Search & Rescue
The change-over of the international satellite-based Search & Rescue System "COSPAS-SARSAT" to the 406 MHz frequency will spur the market for Personal Locator Beacons and Direction Finders. The civil, military and paramilitary applications are estimated to be worth approximately 400 million Euros. With the MR510, Becker bring a new product to market matching the considerable successes of the past.
Avionics revolution in VFR aviation
Less than 1% of all light aircraft worldwide are, at present, equipped with Mode Sierra transponders. Legislation in the most important aviation markets stipulates the changeover as advised by the regulatory authorities. In addition to the gain in safety, the data link capacity of the Mode-S Technology and the foreseeable introduction of ADS-B, will offer access to a number of services currently unavailable to the majority of pilots (traffic-information, weather-information etc). This will positively affect the demand in the future. Market potential is estimated at 400 million Euros. Becker will participate in this campaign with a number of well-engineered products, offering a very attractive cost-to-performance ratio.
